“If you’re not passionate about helping people, this wouldn’t be the job for you. It’s not for everybody,” said Amanda McBride. Amanda has worked at Encore at Parkside in Newark since 2019. She is one-third of a tremendous trio of housekeepers with the well-earned reputation for going above and beyond on behalf of their residents. Amanda’s co trio members are Amy Nardinocchi, who has worked at the senior living community since 2007, and Kalei Lilly, who has been there for a little over a year.
“They just jump in and help with whatever we need,” said Nicci Stewart, sales and marketing director.
All three of the ladies admit to being a bit (pleasantly) surprised to find themselves working in senior living and loving it. “I was looking for a job and applied here. I’d never worked in senior living and was surprised by how it made me feel. I’m a caring and soft-hearted person, and I love the residents,” Amy said.
Amanda said she also loves the residents, adding, “I also love the people I work with. Everything everyone does is for the residents, to keep them happy. We always want to help them.”
Kalei was friends with Amy, who suggested she look into working at Encore at Parkside. “She told me there was an opening, and she knew I love helping people. I’m in school now, pursuing a degree in nursing. This is my first year, and I now know I want to work in geriatrics. I wouldn’t have thought that before working here, and it sort of surprised me. I love helping the residents,” she said.
“They truly do go above and beyond every day,” said Nicci. “And it shows. We get lots of compliments during marketing tours about how clean the building is and how happy the residents are.”
